Small businesses in Michigan have a significant opportunity to access grant funding aimed at enhancing employee training.
Michigan Works! West Central is currently accepting applications for the Going PRO Talent Fund, which allows businesses to reimburse training expenses for their workforce. The application period for this semi-annual funding cycle is open, with a deadline set for October 18 at 5 p.m.
Eligible businesses can claim up to $2,000 in reimbursement per employee and up to $3,500 for each U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL)-registered apprentice during this fall cycle. A total of $45 million is earmarked for Cycle 1, focusing on improving employee retention and boosting the local economy.
Since launching in 2014, Michigan Works! West Central has successfully secured over $4.9 million in training funds for local employers, positively impacting more than 5,600 workers, including 184 registered apprentices.
This initiative dovetails with Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s “60 by 30” goal, which seeks to increase the number of working-age adults with credentials to 60% by 2030.
For businesses eager to apply for the FY25 Cycle of the Going PRO Talent Fund, resources and additional information are available on the Michigan Works! West Central website. Local businesses can also contact their Michigan Works! West Central representatives for assistance with their applications.
