Recent insights from the Maharashtra pre-poll study 2024 reveal significant trends in voter sentiment ahead of the upcoming elections. The study, conducted from September 21 to October 6, surveyed 2,607 respondents across 39 Assembly constituencies throughout the State.
Using a multi-stage random sampling design, the research ensures a comprehensive representation of the voter demographic in Maharashtra. Assembly constituencies were randomly selected based on size, and four polling stations were chosen within each sampled constituency using systematic random sampling. Although 156 polling stations were initially selected, data collection occurred at 139 of these locations, with a targeted selection of 40 respondents from the electoral rolls. Each station aimed for 25 interviews.
Interviews were conducted by trained students utilizing a mobile app, with the questionnaire translated into Marathi to facilitate effective communication. While the sample size is modest, it accurately reflects the social composition of Maharashtra’s electorate, and corrective weights were applied to address any disparities among social groups.
