ECNETNews has reported that Meta has unveiled a comprehensive array of new features for its Threads app, aimed at improving personalization and user control. Launched on March 20, 2025, these enhancements include expanded topic tagging, follower-only interaction settings, a customizable feed experience, and upgraded video playback capabilities.
These features are crafted to empower users to express themselves more freely, manage their interactions online, and foster connections with like-minded communities.
Enhanced Topic Tagging and Discovery
Users can now incorporate up to ten topics into their bio, allowing for easier discovery of common interests directly from profile pages. Selecting one of these tagged topics guides users to ongoing discussions related to that subject, simplifying connections with others who share similar passions.
The post creation process has been streamlined with prompts for trending or previously used topics, facilitating the attachment of relevant tags. Data indicates that posts with tagged topics often garner more views compared to those without.
Moreover, the revamped timely topic tags are now more prominent in the For You feed, enhancing access to popular discussions and encouraging wider engagement.
New Controls for Replies and Feeds
Users can now limit replies and quote-posts to followers only, building on the Quote Controls feature introduced in November 2024. This enhancement grants users greater authority over who can interact with their shared content.
Additionally, the option to customize feed order has been introduced, allowing users to set their preferred feed as the default view upon opening the app, personalizing their Threads experience.
In line with earlier announcements, Meta has also started reintroducing civic content to Threads with a more personalized approach, following updates to its policy on political posts.
Improved Video Playback Features
The media player on Threads now features refined pause, play, and skip controls for easier navigation. A pinned progress bar has been added to enhance users’ ability to move backward and forward through video content smoothly.
Meta emphasizes its commitment to continuously evolving Threads based on user feedback, aiming to establish the app as the premier platform for sharing thoughts, ideas, and personal insights.
