A tragic incident unfolded at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital when a 20-year-old second-year medical student was found hanging in her room at the ESI quarters in Kamarhati. The young woman was residing with her mother, a local doctor at the ESI hospital.
According to police sources, it is believed that the student may have been experiencing depression. On the night of the incident, her mother attempted to check on her, knocking on the door multiple times. After receiving no response, she forced the door open and discovered her daughter suspended.
With the assistance of neighbors, the mother rushed her daughter to the emergency ward of ESI Hospital, where medical professionals pronounced her dead. Subsequently, the body was sent for a post-mortem examination, and an unnatural death case has been registered at the Kamarhati police station.
Authorities have reported that no suicide note was found in the room, and the family has not filed any formal complaint. While an official police statement is pending, sources indicate that the student was struggling with a chronic illness, which may have affected her mental health.
Investigations are currently underway, with the post-mortem report expected soon.
