This week, ECNETNews reports the premiere of The Penguin on HBO and Max, the first spin-off series from The Batman. This series is part of director Matt Reeves’ larger vision for what he terms The Batman Epic Crime Saga. Originally, The Penguin was intended to be just the first of several series emerging from the film, although separate projects focused on Gotham City PD and Arkham Asylum have since been shelved. Reeves confirmed that additional spin-offs could follow if The Penguin garners enough success.
In a recent discussion, Reeves refrained from detailing the specific spin-offs in consideration beyond The Penguin. However, he noted that these forthcoming shows may draw inspiration from prior concepts involving the GCPD and Arkham Asylum.
“The ideas we’re exploring are evolved versions of those earlier pitches,” Reeves stated. He emphasized that the previous ideas weren’t failures but rather opportunities for growth as they continue to achieve their vision.
While Robert Pattinson’s Batman will not appear in The Penguin, Reeves did acknowledge that there was brief consideration for his inclusion. He hinted at the possibility of Pattinson’s Dark Knight making an appearance in a future series.
“That doesn’t mean we won’t see Batman or Bruce in another series,” he mentioned. “Lauren and I did explore the idea of having Rob in this show, but it became an afterthought.”
In other exciting news, Reeves revealed that he has completed the script for The Batman Part 2, with filming set to commence next year. He indicated that the sequel will jump forward in time after the events of The Penguin, with Oz serving as a key entry point into the upcoming film.
The Batman Part 2 is scheduled to premiere in theaters on October 2, 2026, generating anticipation among fans of the franchise.
