Massive Attack has officially declined an invitation to perform at the 2025 Coachella festival, highlighting concerns over the event’s environmental impact. In a recent interview, band member Robert “3D” Del Naja expressed his reservations about the festival’s heavy burden on local water supplies and its unsustainable desert location.
“We said no to Coachella for next year,” Del Naja stated. “We’ve been there once, and once was enough. It’s in Palm Springs, a golf resort built on a desert, relying on a sprinkler system and public water supplies. It’s astonishing to witness such disregard for environmental sustainability.”
Del Naja further criticized the festival’s logistics, noting that “Vegas is an aviation destination,” which presents challenges for sustainable travel. He remarked on the irony of advanced infrastructure located in such an unsuitable environment.
In addition to addressing the ecological implications of large-scale events, Massive Attack is planning to release new music next year, as part of their ongoing commitment to environmental awareness and sustainability in the music industry.
