Marvel Studios made waves during its recent Hall H panel at Comic-Con with a series of major revelations about upcoming projects. Kevin Feige announced that the Russo brothers, Joe and Anthony Russo, will return to direct two highly anticipated Avengers films—Avengers 5 and Avengers 6. While the sixth installment is officially titled Avengers: Secret Wars, the fifth film has undergone a title change from Avengers: The Kang Dynasty to Avengers: Doomsday.
This shift in focus from Kang comes in light of recent developments involving Jonathan Majors, who was removed from the role. The primary antagonist for Avengers: Doomsday is now set to be one of Marvel’s most iconic villains, Doctor Doom, who will be portrayed by Robert Downey Jr., the legendary actor who originated the MCU as Iron Man.
In a surprising twist during the announcement, multiple actors dressed as Doctor Doom made an appearance on stage, culminating with Downey himself. He expressed his enthusiasm for playing complex characters. While no details were provided regarding the connection between Doctor Doom and the late Tony Stark, it is speculated that this storyline will tie into Marvel’s multiverse narrative, which includes a Council of Dooms from various realities.
Additionally, Doctor Doom is set to feature prominently in Avengers: Secret Wars, marking a significant chapter in Marvel’s Multiverse Saga. Avengers: Doomsday is slated for release on May 1, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027.
The announcements didn’t stop there; Marvel also unveiled that The Fantastic Four received a new subtitle, and exclusive footage from Thunderbolts was showcased. Furthermore, it was confirmed that Giancarlo Esposito’s character in Captain America: Brave New World will connect back to the events of Eternals, highlighting Marvel’s ongoing commitment to a cohesive cinematic universe.
