A POCSO court has handed a 20-year prison sentence to a 22-year-old man convicted of raping a minor girl, as reported on September 19, 2024. The Special Judge of the POCSO Court, Kumar Mayank, also imposed a fine of ₹28,000 on the accused.
According to government attorney Shubham Mishra, the conviction stems from an incident that occurred on March 20, 2023, in Sheeshgarh town. The father of the victim filed a complaint after the accused lured the 15-year-old girl to a brick kiln and sexually assaulted her.
The complaint further detailed that the girl was held captive for several days, during which she was repeatedly raped and threatened. Following a thorough investigation, the police submitted a charge sheet against the perpetrator.
The court proceedings included testimonies from seven witnesses, after which the judge confirmed the guilt of the accused based on the evidence presented. The fine imposed will be allocated to the victim for her rehabilitation.
This landmark ruling underscores the commitment of the judicial system to ensure justice for victims of sexual assault.
