BARTLETT, N.H. — A skiing incident at Attitash Mountain Resort escalated when a man fell approximately 20 feet from a ski lift due to a chair detachment. Fortunately, the man sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to local authorities.
Witnesses reported that the incident occurred around 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, with the individual remaining conscious after the fall. He was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, as confirmed by state officials.
Authorities stated that preliminary investigations suggest a mechanical failure may have caused the chair to dislodge from the lift’s cable. Notably, no other passengers were harmed, and all remaining riders were successfully unloaded from the lift without issue.
As a safety precaution, the Flying Bear lift has been temporarily closed while thorough investigations by state officials and the Passenger Tramway Safety Board are conducted.
A spokesperson for the resort, which is a part of a larger network of ski areas, emphasized that daily inspections of all lifts are a standard practice to ensure guest safety.
Local skier David Gunzburger, who witnessed the aftermath, described the scene as alarming. “It’s scary, it’s a nightmare. The worst possible situation,” he expressed. He observed ski patrol personnel assisting the injured individual, noting that he was secured with a backboard and neck brace.
