S. Ramadoss, founder of Pattali Makkal Katchi, has called on the State government to grant permanent employment status to temporary workers who have served for a decade.
In his recent statement, Ramadoss highlighted that over 30,000 individuals are currently employed as domestic breeding checkers under temporary contracts and at lower wages. He criticized the government for its practices, noting that some workers have sought judicial intervention for permanent positions, leading district administrations to restrict their employment opportunities. “This situation stands as a violation of social justice and labor rights,” he asserted.
Ramadoss explained that labor laws stipulate that a worker who has served 240 days in an establishment is entitled to permanent employment. “It is an employee’s right to secure a permanent job, yet the current government has failed to uphold this,” he argued.
Since the DMK took office, only 32,774 permanent roles have been filled through various recruitment boards, while an alarming 32,709 individuals have been hired on a contractual basis within government sectors. Ramadoss urged the State government to take immediate action and provide permanent job status for all temporary workers who have completed 10 years of service.
