ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida and Texas continue to lead the nation in attracting new residents, with a significant portion coming from overseas. According to recent migration data from the U.S. Census Bureau, over 45% of the nearly 634,000 residents in Florida who relocated from another state or country last year were from foreign nations.
With a population of 23 million, Florida recorded the highest number of new residents compared to other states, while Texas, home to 30.5 million residents, closely followed. Of the approximate 612,000 newcomers to Texas, 43% hailed from abroad.
The migration statistics do not specify the countries of origin for these new residents.
One individual who made the move is Priscila Coronado, who relocated to Miami from Guatemala in pursuit of a brighter future. “I am happy. My dream is to study, learn English and graduate with a nursing degree,” Coronado expressed. “There is no crime here, and that is an achievement.”
Among U.S. states, New York contributed the most new residents to Florida, while California was the leading state of origin for those moving to Texas.
Despite the influx of new residents, both states also experienced outflows. Georgia saw the highest number of former Floridians relocating, while California gained the most ex-Texans.
