Leaders of the Mahila Sanghala Ikya Vedika have accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating a "conspiracy" to file false charges against Bollywood actress Kadambari Jethwani and her family members related to a land dispute from February 2024.
During a media briefing in Vijayawada on September 9, 2024, they claimed that the Ibrahipatnam police, under pressure from BJP officials, wrongfully arrested Ms. Jethwani and her family members on February 2, resulting in their judicial custody. Ms. Jethwani was also present at the event.
Ikya Vedika leader Sunkara Padmasri called for a judicial inquiry into what she described as the "illegal arrest" and alleged police misconduct involving torture and misbehavior toward the family.
Fellow leader D. Ramadevi expressed that this incident tarnished the reputation of Andhra Pradesh, urging the government to hold accountable those responsible for the actress and her family’s arrest. “The case was fabricated to shield an industrialist from Mumbai,” she claimed.
“Police acted swiftly to register a case against Kadambari Jethwani and her family, bringing them to Vijayawada and incarcerating them based on false accusations,” Ms. Ramadevi added.
P. Durga Bhavani, another Ikya Vedika member, demanded that the NDA alliance take action against the perpetrators and ensure the safety of the actress’s family.
The Mahila Sanghala Ikya Vedika insisted that justice must be served for Ms. Jethwani and her family. Following the press conference, they met with Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhar Babu, urging him to expedite proceedings in the case.
