Luke Humphries Expresses Gratitude Towards Gary Anderson While Acknowledging Luke Littler’s Stardom
Luke Humphries has publicly expressed his appreciation for Gary Anderson’s praise, highlighting that he feels he doesn’t receive enough recognition. However, he acknowledges that Luke Littler is currently the “superstar” of the darts scene.
Anderson recently remarked that Humphries often gets “overlooked” and deserves “a bit more respect” after his impressive rise to world No. 1 over the past year, especially following his victory over Littler in the World Championship final.
Humphries, who has advanced to the quarter-finals of the World Grand Prix after defeating Ricardo Pietreczko, is hopeful of facing Anderson in the finals this week in Leicester.
Reflecting on Anderson’s comments, Humphries stated, “Gary had some lovely words to say about me. When a legend of the game acknowledges you, it feels great.” He also mentioned he might rewatch the praise to relish the moment.
“He’s a legend of the game and in my eyes, he’s the best player in the world,” Humphries added, expressing admiration for Anderson’s unparalleled statistical achievements.
Humphries’ exceptional journey in darts has been marked by titles such as the World Grand Prix, Grand Slam of Darts, Players Championship Finals, and the World Championship within the last year. He recently faced Littler in the Premier League Darts but rebounded by winning the World Cup of Darts alongside Michael Smith.
Despite his recent success, Humphries conveyed that he feels his contributions are recognized, stating, “I think when you have a superstar like Littler, it’s hard not to shine a light on that. Luke is elevating the sport to incredible heights.”
Humphries and Littler have clashed 12 times this year, with Littler leading the head-to-head at 8-4, but many matches have been tightly contested. As Humphries commented, “If I were 17 or 18, I might feel overshadowed, but now all I want is to win titles.”
He praised Littler for his extraordinary talent, recognizing the teenager’s status as one of the world’s top players at such a young age.
“I can see the media attention on him,” Humphries remarked. “I believe I deserve a bit more recognition too, but the spotlight on Luke is well-earned, and I think I am receiving some credit.”
Stay tuned for the action as the World Grand Prix unfolds in Leicester!
