Inspired by a long-standing dream, plans to collaborate with a traditional mariachi band have finally come to fruition. The idea originated while exploring sounds that could enhance the track “Tropic of Cancer” from a previous album, but it remained an unrealized vision until recent events aligned.
In preparation for a anticipated performance in Mexico, a local sound technician facilitated connections with mariachi musicians and a studio renowned for mariachi recordings. This sparked an initiative that brought together a talented team of musicians from Mexico and Spain. They meticulously translated two tracks from the Reset collection, ensuring fidelity to the lyrical depth, the charismatic nuances of Mexican Spanish, and the intricate rhythmic flow that characterizes the genre.
In November 2023, the recording session took place at Topetitud Studio in Coyoacan, Mexico City. Under the skilled guidance of arrangers Santiago and Patsi Mijare, the mariachi band showcased their musical prowess, complementing the core percussion by the team. Despite the language barrier, the lively camaraderie among the mariachi members spoke volumes, and their enjoyment of the songs was evident. The session transformed into a celebration of culture and creativity, leaving a lasting impression and bridging musical worlds.
