Meta has taken decisive action by blocking the leaked JD Vance dossier across its platforms, including Threads, Instagram, and Facebook.
As confirmed in a statement, sharing or posting links to the hacked documents violates Meta’s content policies, which prohibit content sourced from hacks or leaks tied to foreign operations aiming to influence U.S. elections.
Users on Threads reported that posts linking to the dossier were promptly removed. Additionally, links hosted on third-party sites have also faced restrictions. However, some users found workarounds, posting links to the dossier by altering the URL or providing search instructions.
The leaked dossier, obtained by independent journalist Ken Klippenstein, is reportedly connected to Iranian efforts to sway the U.S. presidential election. It outlines former President Donald Trump’s campaign’s vetting process for Senator JD Vance and assesses his potential as a vice-presidential candidate.
Insights from the document reveal Vance’s political positions on various issues, including a proposal for higher taxes on individuals without children. It also touches on a deleted tweet from Vance regarding sexual assault allegations against Trump, along with sensitive personal information such as his contact details.
Klippenstein’s account has faced suspension for sharing a link to the dossier, reflecting stringent enforcement of content guidelines. Meta’s actions highlight ongoing discussions about privacy and the integrity of information circulating in the political landscape.
