The creators of the popular party game, Cards Against Humanity, have filed a lawsuit against SpaceX, alleging unauthorized use and damage to a vacant plot of land the game company owns in Texas.
According to the lawsuit submitted to a Texas court this week, Cards Against Humanity claims that SpaceX has used the property, located in Cameron County, as if it were their own for at least six months.
The legal documents state that SpaceX, having previously acquired adjacent land, has placed construction materials—including gravel—and debris on the company’s land without obtaining permission.
Despite attempts to gain clarity, SpaceX has not yet responded to requests for comments regarding the allegations.
The Chicago-based game company acquired the land in 2017 as part of an initiative to protest the construction of a border wall during the Trump administration, with contributions from approximately 150,000 individuals who each donated $15 to support the cause.
Cards Against Humanity asserts it has preserved the land in its natural condition over the years and has indicated that a “no trespassing” sign was posted to inform visitors that they were entering private property.
The company is seeking $15 million in damages, citing the loss of vegetation and other impacts on the land as part of their claim.
