A federal lawmaker representing Oyo-North Constituency, Senator AbdulFatai Buhari, brought the urgent need for the rehabilitation of the Lagos-Ibadan-Ogbomosho road to the attention of the Federal Government during an award ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday night. This crucial route plays a significant role in economic activities, and its current state poses challenges for travelers and freight transport.
Senator Buhari, represented by his Chief of Staff, Bashir Salaudeen, expressed concerns regarding the highway’s deteriorating condition. The 65-kilometer Oyo-Ogbomosho corridor is a key link between the North and South, connecting major regions and facilitating the movement of goods.
The highway, which has been under construction for over a decade, has become increasingly unmotorable, affecting not only local traffic but also disrupting transport for articulated trucks traveling to northern states, including Kwara, Niger, Kaduna, Kano, and Zamfara from Lagos.
Upon receiving the award, Buhari stated, “In light of the economic challenges we face, it is imperative to address the state of the Ogbomosho-Lagos-Ibadan road. Repairing this vital route would significantly improve the transportation of essential goods and strengthen our economy.”
He emphasized the importance of community engagement and the role of religious institutions in guiding society through challenging times, urging citizens to participate in the democratic process and elect leaders committed to advocating for public interests.
The award ceremony also featured commendations for the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, with the award coordinator, Adelele Olorunwa, praising the inclusion of youth in governance. Olorunwa noted that the recipients were chosen through a public voting process, highlighting their contributions to national development.
