The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a landlord following a shooting incident involving a young boy, identified as Paul. The incident occurred when Paul was playing football with his schoolmates at the Urban Secondary School field in Area N, World Bank Housing Estate, Owerri, Imo State. During the game, the football went over the fence and into the landlord’s property.
In an attempt to retrieve the ball, Paul entered the landlord’s premises and was subsequently shot in the waist, leaving him in critical condition. The Police Public Relations Officer for Imo State, Henry Okoye, stated that the landlord is currently in custody, and an investigation is underway. Paul is receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.
Paul’s guardian, Jonathan Odikanwa, expressed his deep concern for the boy’s wellbeing and requested privacy during this challenging time. He shared that although an X-ray revealed no bullet lodged in Paul’s body, doctors are investigating complications related to his bowel movements. An upcoming surgery is planned to further assess the situation.
Odikanwa emphasized the need for prayers for his son’s recovery, stating, “What I earnestly want from everyone is to join us in praying for him to survive this critical period.” Paul has been part of the Odikanwa family for eight years and is currently a JSS 1 student at Urban Secondary School in Owerri.
