A Lagos-based National Youth Service Corps member has raised alarming concerns regarding alleged threats following her viral video criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s government over escalating inflation and economic hardship.
In a video posted online, she articulated her frustration with Nigeria’s deteriorating economic landscape, expressing that hard work seems futile amidst ongoing financial struggles. The corps member openly labeled Tinubu as a “terrible leader” and questioned the administration’s commitment to alleviating citizens’ suffering.
Moreover, she described Lagos State as a “smelling state,” highlighting issues related to its odor and poor living conditions.
Shortly after her video gained significant attention, she reported receiving threats, allegedly from NYSC officials, demanding that she remove the controversial content.
Expressing her disappointment and frustration, the corps member took to social media to voice her concerns about being silenced, emphasizing that she merely spoke the truth regarding Nigeria’s realities. She stated, “I am already getting threatened by the NYSC board to stop speaking on this issue… I didn’t do anything wrong; I just asked that they work on the inflation.”
She continued, questioning why expressing her views should lead to threats or intimidation, declaring that her position as an NYSC corps member does not strip her of her right to free speech.
Her allegations have ignited widespread debate on social media, with many Nigerians expressing concern that the NYSC may be suppressing free speech among corps members.
