In a significant move, Krafton has officially acquired Tango Gameworks, bringing the popular Hi-Fi Rush intellectual property into its portfolio.
Krafton announced the acquisition as part of its quarterly earnings report, emphasizing collaboration with Xbox to ensure a seamless transition for Tango Gameworks.
This acquisition follows the unexpected announcement from Xbox about the closure of Tango Gameworks and other ZeniMax/Bethesda studios, including Arkane Austin, earlier this year. Despite the accolades for Hi-Fi Rush, the studio faced challenges under Microsoft, even as the tech giant focused on its acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
Now, with new ownership, Tango Gameworks is set to continue its journey in game development.
Krafton Expands Horizons with Tango Gameworks Acquisition
Krafton expressed its excitement, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome the talented team of Tango Gameworks, marking a pivotal moment in our global growth and our initial significant investment in the Japanese gaming sector. This strategic acquisition includes the rights to the acclaimed Hi-Fi Rush IP.”
The agreement will facilitate ongoing collaboration with Xbox and ZeniMax to ensure a continued flow of innovation at Tango Gameworks, allowing them to further develop Hi-Fi Rush and explore new projects. Krafton reaffirmed that the existing titles, including The Evil Within series and Ghostwire: Tokyo, will not be affected.
Established in 2010 by renowned Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, Tango Gameworks made its debut with the survival horror title The Evil Within, followed by its sequel and the action-adventure game Ghostwire: Tokyo.
Launched unexpectedly on January 25, 2023, Hi-Fi Rush garnered widespread acclaim, earning several prestigious awards including BAFTA and Game Awards honors.
