Jakarta, ECNETNews – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is currently conducting a search at the private residence of the General Secretary of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Hasto Kristiyanto, on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. The KPK has denied that this search is an attempt to divert attention from ongoing controversies.
The search at Hasto’s residence in Bekasi, West Java, is linked to a corruption case involving bribery and obstruction of justice related to the interim replacement (PAW) of members of the House of Representatives in the 2019-2024 period, specifically concerning Harun Masiku, who is currently a wanted suspect.
“We cannot prevent outsiders from reaching their own conclusions about this. Some may feel that this activity serves to divert attention from other hot issues currently discussed in various media. We will let that remain in the public domain,” said KPK Spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika at the KPK Red and White Building on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
Tessa emphasized that the search was carried out professionally by investigators. Therefore, the KPK dismisses claims that the search at Hasto’s home is intended to distract from other matters.
“The KPK, in this instance, will continue to perform its actions in a professional, procedural, and proportional manner,” she added.
Previously, Guntur Romli, the spokesperson for PDIP, speculated that the KPK’s search of Hasto Kristiyanto’s home was an attempt to divert attention from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OCCRP)’s announcement, which listed Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), as one of the most corrupt leaders in 2024.
“For us, the search at the home of PDIP General Secretary Hasto Kristiyanto is an attempt to distract from the OCCRP announcement that positioned Jokowi as a finalist for the most corrupt leader in the world in 2024,” Guntur stated in his remarks on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
He claimed that PDIP has received information that Jokowi is significantly disturbed by the OCCRP announcement, prompting various measures to cover up that news, including the search at Hasto’s residence.
“We have received information that Jokowi is very disturbed and upset about the OCCRP announcement and is taking every possible action to suppress this news. Thus, the search at Hasto Kristiyanto’s home is part of this distraction,” he remarked.
