The highly anticipated biopic about the iconic band Sublime has officially cast KJ Apa as the lead actor. Apa will portray the late singer and bandleader Bradley Nowell. The project is under the direction of Justin Chon, known for his work on “Blue Bayou,” and he is co-writing the screenplay with Bobby Hundreds, using an original draft by Chris Mundy.
Initially announced in 2022 with Francis Lawrence as director, the film has since seen a shift in leadership, with Lawrence taking on the role of executive producer. Original Sublime members Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson, along with Nowell’s son, Jakob, and widow, Troy, will also serve as executive producers, representing the late singer’s estate.
KJ Apa, recognized for his role as Archie in the popular series “Riverdale,” has been vying for the role of Nowell for the past two years. Besides acting, Apa is also a musician, having released his debut album “Clocks” in 2021. This film promises to capture the essence of Sublime’s unique influence in music history.
