BROOKLINE, Mass. — Kitty Dukakis, the esteemed spouse of former Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis, has passed away at the age of 88. Known for her openness about her struggles with depression and addiction, she died on Friday night surrounded by family, as confirmed by her son, John Dukakis.
Her family remarked that she dedicated herself to making the world a better place, “sharing her vulnerabilities to help others face theirs.” They noted her loving nature, resilience, and keen empathy towards individuals from all backgrounds. The couple shared a remarkable partnership for over 60 years, characterized by profound love and connection.
Dukakis was a notable political campaigner during her husband’s 1988 presidential run, where she played an instrumental role, influencing him to pursue the presidency.
