In a controversial statement, Kerala Congress MLA Roji M John has sparked debate over the management of wild animals encroaching on human settlements. During the UDF’s ‘Malayora Jatha’ protest march in Angamaly, John proposed that elephants, tigers, and wild boars should experience physical pain as a deterrent to future invasions.
John made these remarks in front of senior party leaders, including the Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly, VD Satheesan, as part of an ongoing discussion on wildlife challenges in Kerala.
These comments follow similar sentiments expressed by another Congress MLA, Sunny Joseph, who recently criticized the existing regulation mandating the burial of wild boars hunted with licensed firearms. Instead, he suggested they should be prepared for consumption, highlighting an alternative approach during the UDF’s ‘Malayora Jatha’ in Kannur.
The UDF is actively addressing the increasing concerns over wildlife attacks and the economic difficulties faced by farmers in the hilly areas of Kerala through this protest march.
