A police constable in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has been accused of orchestrating a snakebite attack on his wife in a calculated attempt to murder her, following years of alleged abuse.
The victim, identified as Anshika, claims that her troubled relationship with Anuj Pal began under coercive circumstances four years ago when he allegedly assaulted her. To evade potential legal repercussions, he married her in a temple and initially kept her at his sister’s house. However, after securing his position with the Uttar Pradesh Police, he reportedly denied their marriage.
Following Anshika’s initial police complaint, a compromise was reached, allowing her to live with him. Unfortunately, this marked the onset of persistent physical abuse and threats against her.
On February 19, Anshika alleges that Anuj, in a preplanned act, hired two snake charmers to administer a snakebite on her. He reportedly stifled her screams and, believing she had died after she lost consciousness, left her unattended in a room.
Defying the odds, Anshika regained consciousness and managed to escape, locking the room from the outside and fleeing to her parents’ home. Initially, her family faced challenges when attempting to lodge a police complaint.
Anshika was hospitalized in critical condition following the incident. After her discharge, she and her father contacted the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Kanpur, who recognized the severity of the situation and ordered the immediate filing of a First Information Report (FIR).
Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the shocking allegations.
