Kamala Harris has made headlines by releasing her medical records, confirming that she is in “excellent health” and suitable for the presidency.
In response to this disclosure, the Democratic presidential nominee criticized Donald Trump for his refusal to share his health records, stating that he lacks transparency.
Harris further alleged that her Republican rival is unwilling to let the American people know whether he is fit for the presidency.
While Trump’s team has not released his medical records, they cited his doctor claiming he is in “perfect and excellent health.”
The Trump campaign responded to Harris’s attacks by asserting that he maintains a “busy and active campaign schedule” and implied that Harris does not possess the same stamina as Trump.
This exchange follows a recent medical report from the White House, indicating Vice President Harris “possesses the physical and mental resiliency” required to serve as president.
Dr. Joshua Simmons, a US Army physician who has cared for Harris for over three years, described her latest physical exam as “unremarkable” and noted her commitment to a healthy lifestyle.
He acknowledged her family history of colon cancer and allergies, stating that she adheres to recommended preventative care, including regular screenings.
After the medical records were released, a Harris campaign spokesperson appealed to Trump on social media, saying, “your turn, Donald Trump.”
Before a campaign event in North Carolina, Harris also raised concerns about Trump’s mental acuity, criticizing him for occasionally “going off on tangents.”
Democrats have been vocal about Trump’s age and mental fitness, especially after months of similar criticisms directed at President Joe Biden before he withdrew from the race.
If elected again in November, Trump would be the oldest incumbent at 82, a milestone that would be matched by Biden upon leaving office in January.
In addressing the pressure from the Harris campaign, Trump’s campaign communications director stated he had “voluntarily released” updates from his physician and the doctor who treated him after a recent assassination attempt.
He emphasized that all medical evaluations concluded Trump is in “perfect and excellent health” to serve as Commander in Chief.
Furthermore, a medical letter from November 2023 indicated that Trump’s physical exams were normal and cognitive assessments were exceptional.
Current national polls suggest Harris has a slight lead over Trump, although battleground state numbers indicate a very close race.
