A teenager was arrested on Saturday in connection with the tragic murder of a 75-year-old woman at her residence in Rajapalayam village, near Alangayam. The crime occurred a few days earlier, triggering community outrage.
Investigations revealed that the suspect had a history of petty crimes, frequently stealing household items from the village. The elderly victim had taken note of his activities and reported them to her neighbors, heightening tensions in the community.
In a fit of rage, the teenager allegedly broke into her house in the early hours of October 2, striking the victim on the head with an iron rod, which rendered her unconscious. He then fled the scene with her mobile phone.
Law enforcement officials apprehended the suspect while he was hiding in the village, bringing some relief to the shaken community.
