Justin Rose Targets BMW PGA Championship as 2024 Season Reaches Crucial Phase
Justin Rose is determined to wrap up the 2024 golf season with a strong performance, setting his sights on a coveted victory at the BMW PGA Championship held at Wentworth this week. The prestigious event serves as a highlight in the golf calendar.
Describing his year as “mixed,” Rose noted that he had standout moments at two of the four major tournaments, particularly a tied-second finish at The Open at Royal Troon. He was in contention on the final day but ultimately lost to Xander Schauffele, who surged ahead with an impressive four birdies in six holes.
Reflecting on his performance at The Open, Rose expressed, “I felt that easily could have been my tournament. I don’t think I really put a foot wrong, I just got beaten by Xander, who was on top form.”
As the 2024 majors loom, Rose remains focused on his goals. “The PGA Championship put me in the hunt on the back nine, and that has given me a ton of self-belief and the drive to continue to work hard,” he said.
With aspirations directed toward next year’s opening major, The Masters, in April, Rose stated, “It will be nice to finish the season strong, as I’m already thinking about Augusta. The BMW PGA Championship is particularly important to me; I haven’t won there before but have come close. It’s a home event, and that would be huge.”
Rose also shares his ambitions of qualifying for the 2025 Ryder Cup. He views joining Team Europe for the seventh time at the age of 45 as a “monumental goal.” His experience proved invaluable during the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome, where he guided rookie Robert MacIntyre to success in their fourball matches, contributing to Europe’s victory.
“It’s still probably my biggest goal to make that team. It would mean so many other layers have gone well,” he remarked. Rose is aware that while achieving this ambition is challenging, he believes it is still very doable.
Experience and determination fuel Rose’s passion as he continues his quest for success in professional golf.
