A bus transporting approximately 11 journalists covering the recent hardship protests was attacked by violent individuals on Sokoto Road. The assailants, armed with sticks and machetes, shattered the vehicle’s windows, leaving the occupants covered in glass debris. A correspondent from a media outlet sustained minor injuries during the incident.
Earlier on the same day, similar attacks occurred when the rear window of a WAZOBIA FM radio vehicle was shattered while covering the protests. As the unrest progressed, reports emerged of youths setting fire to the Nigerian Communications Commission Office on State Road after looting it.
Protesters have wreaked havoc throughout the city, vandalizing shops and businesses while participating in extensive looting. However, a significant group of protesters wearing green face caps emblazoned with the word “Peace” emerged to counteract the violence. They chanted, “Mu yanci mukeso ba ruwan mu da kayan kowa,” which translates to, “We need freedom from the government; we don’t want anybody’s property,” as they sought to restore order in the streets.
The situation continues to develop as the community responds to the ongoing protests.
