In a thrilling display of cricket, Australia’s Josh Inglis achieved a record-breaking century, leading his team to a 70-run victory over Scotland in the second T20 international held in Edinburgh. Battling from the first over, Inglis powered through to 103 runs, striking seven fours and seven sixes at an impressive strike rate exceeding 200.
Despite a valiant effort from Scotland’s Brandon McMullen, who scored a half-century, the home side struggled to build any significant momentum in their chase. Opener Travis Head, who previously scored a century, was dismissed for a duck off the first ball, but Inglis quickly took charge of the innings.
Scotland’s Brad Currie proved to be a key bowler early on, claiming the wickets of Head and Jake Fraser-McGurk to leave Australia at 23-2. However, Cameron Green’s steady contribution of 36 runs steadied the ship, allowing Inglis to unleash a flurry of aggressive shots.
Inglis’s historic century came off just 43 balls, marking a new record for Australian men in T20 internationals. His innings concluded when he was caught by Richie Berrington off Chris Sole’s bowling. Marcus Stoinis added a quickfire 20 not out, helping Australia finish at 196-4.
In Scotland’s reply, George Munsey attempted to spark a fightback with a rapid 19 off nine balls. Unfortunately, regular wickets fell, with McMullen as the top scorer at 59 runs off 42 balls. Ultimately, Scotland was bowled out for 126, with Stoinis claiming impressive figures of 4-23, solidifying Australia’s series lead at 2-0.
