Rock icon Jon Bon Jovi has received widespread acclaim from law enforcement for his heroic actions in helping a woman who was in crisis on a bridge in Nashville, Tennessee, on Tuesday night.
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department released footage showing Bon Jovi and his team at the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge when they spotted the woman perilously perched over the Cumberland River.
According to police reports, Bon Jovi, aged 62, along with other bystanders, engaged the woman in conversation, ultimately persuading her to step back onto the bridge.
“It takes all of us to help keep each other safe,” stated Chief John Drake in a press release.
Bon Jovi was reportedly in Nashville filming a music video at the time of the incident, as indicated by other video coverage circulating online.
In the police footage, a woman dressed in blue is shown clinging to the railing while standing on the bridge’s ledge. Meanwhile, Bon Jovi’s crew can be seen setting up camera equipment a little further down the bridge.
As Bon Jovi approaches the woman with another individual, his team maintains a distance. He is seen greeting her and leaning on the railing beside her.
After approximately a minute, Bon Jovi, with the assistance of another woman, guides the distressed individual back onto the pedestrian walkway.
Once the woman is safe, Bon Jovi embraces her in a heartfelt hug. The footage later depicts him leaving the bridge alongside her.
The Metro Nashville Police shared on social media: “A shout out to Jon Bon Jovi and his team for aiding a woman on the Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge on Tuesday night.” They emphasized, “Bon Jovi helped persuade her to come off the ledge to safety.”
