John Higgins has made history by becoming only the second snooker player to reach 1,000 career centuries, despite being eliminated from the English Open held in Brentwood.
The 49-year-old Scot marked this significant milestone with impressive breaks of 108 and 105 during the quarter-final against Mark Allen. However, it was not sufficient to secure a victory, as Allen managed to clinch a 4-3 win after performing consistently in a challenging final frame.
Notably, Ronnie O’Sullivan stands as the only other player to have achieved the four-figure century milestone, completing the feat in the final frame of his 2019 Players Championship victory against Neil Robertson.
In other matches, Judd Trump progressed to a quarter-final showdown with China’s Wu Yize by overcoming Fan Zhengyi with a 4-2 scoreline. Trump also edged closer to joining Higgins and O’Sullivan in the prestigious thousand-century club with a notable break of 101.
Mark Selby demonstrated resilience with a 4-3 win over Si Jiahui, setting up a last-eight clash with India’s Ishpreet Singh Chadha, who also triumphed in a nail-biting final frame against China’s He Guoqiang.
