Jakarta – PT Pindad (Persero) is set to introduce its tactical vehicle, Maung Garuda MV3, to the civilian market. This domestically produced vehicle, initially developed for military use, is anticipated to garner significant interest from the public.
A number of prominent figures have already expressed their intentions to purchase this vehicle, which was championed by President Prabowo Subianto. Notably, Thayne Finsenda Lika, popularly known as Koko Lung Lung, founder of Dokter Mobil Indonesia, stated that Pindad must realize the sale of the Maung to enable public access.
“If Pindad wants to sell the Maung locally, I believe it should be sold to the domestic market, as there will be plenty of buyers,” Koko Lung Lung commented on March 10, 2025. He added that the Maung is likely to be a hit, appealing to consumers with its sleek design and robust 2,200 cc turbo engine.
Koko Lung Lung also emphasized the vehicle’s impressive specifications, predicting a price range between IDR 400 million to IDR 500 million. “This is a great vehicle, attractive and made locally,” he noted.
The enthusiasm to purchase the Maung in the civilian market has also been voiced by Deddy Corbuzier, who expressed his willingness to buy the vehicle with his own funds during a visit to PT Pindad in Bandung on February 27, 2025.
Similarly, Deputy Minister of Industry Faisol Riza has shown his readiness to acquire the Maung, indicating he would buy one when available for public sale. “Once the vehicle is available, we will use it,” said Faisol Riza in Tangerang on October 30, 2024.
The Maung Garuda is currently being manufactured for use by government ministers, with an additional 700 units earmarked for the TNI and Polri as operational vehicles. PT Pindad has confirmed that preparations are in place to launch the Maung for civilian purchase, contingent upon receiving certification from the Ministry of Transportation.
“We are in the process of securing certification with the Ministry of Transportation and the Vehicle Testing and Certification Agency,” said Prima Kharisma, Director of Technology and Development at PT Pindad. He noted the decision to market the Maung freely stems from the strong public interest, further fueled by President Prabowo Subianto’s use of the vehicle as his official transport.
