Former Savages bandleader Jehnny Beth has officially unveiled her upcoming album, You Heartbreaker, You, set to release on August 29. The new project follows her acclaimed 2020 solo debut, To Love Is to Live, and is led by the impactful single “Broken Rib.” The accompanying music video, co-directed by Beth and her long-time collaborator Johnny Hostile, was filmed in Fiction Records’ offices.
In a recent statement, Beth expressed her vision for the album, emphasizing an aggressive sound that opens with a scream in the track “Broken Rib.” She reflected on the theme of brokenness, stating, “The world was broken, I was broken, but it’s not a sad thing. How can a song recompose those fragments? Is it like a Frankenstein beast? I’m not trying to polish it or hide it.” Notably, Beth’s last release was the collaborative LP Utopian Ashes with Bobby Gillespie in 2021.
