Notable activist Jatuporn Prompan is mobilizing a protest against the Entertainment Complex Bill, set for cabinet review on Tuesday. He has called for demonstrators to gather at Chamai Maruchet Bridge to voice their opposition to the proposal, which seeks to allow casino development and potentially legalize online gambling.
“If this bill passes, it will bring significant challenges for Thailand,” warned Jatuporn. “Patriotic citizens must unite to resist the legalization of casinos and online gambling, as it threatens our nation’s integrity and strength.”
He urged coalition parties, particularly the Pheu Thai Party, to reconsider their stance and halt any legislation that could harm the country, emphasizing that such policies were not part of their election promises.
Jatuporn also criticized Chousak Sirinil, the Prime Minister’s Office Minister, for labeling the bill as urgent and pushing for its immediate cabinet review.
In contrast, former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin expressed his support for the Entertainment Complex Bill, suggesting it would attract investment in construction projects across Thailand. He highlighted the proposed development of high-quality museums, indoor stadiums, and community parks as key to boosting tourism and creating jobs.
“As a Thai, I acknowledge the gradual move towards the legalization of gambling and support it, as it promises tangible benefits for society and the economy,” he stated.
