Up to 30,000 residents across two cities in central Japan have been mandated to evacuate as meteorological experts issue warnings of potential major flooding due to heavy rainfall.
In Ishikawa Prefecture on Honshu Island, approximately 18,000 individuals in Wajima and another 12,000 in Suzu are being urged to seek immediate shelter.
The Japan Meteorological Agency has declared a heavy rain emergency, marking the highest alert level for affected areas of the prefecture.
Reports indicate that government officials have confirmed the overflowing of 12 rivers within the region. This natural disaster follows recent challenges faced by the area, which is still in recovery from a devastating magnitude 7.5 earthquake that struck on New Year’s Day.
