Following his impressive victory at the US Open, Jannik Sinner expressed optimism about entering a new era of tennis champions, stating it will be “good for the sport.”
Despite facing an anti-doping scandal before the tournament, Sinner triumphed over American Taylor Fritz in the final, marking his second Grand Slam title of the year after winning the Australian Open. The event also saw Carlos Alcaraz claim titles at the French Open and Wimbledon, marking the first time in 22 years that tennis legends Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic left without a Grand Slam title.
Sinner acknowledged the shift in competition, saying, “It is a bit different, for sure. It’s something new, but it’s also nice to see – nice to see new champions, nice to see new rivalries. I feel it’s good for the sport to have some new champions.”
With this victory, Sinner solidified his position atop the world rankings, but he emphasized that hard work lies ahead. “I always have players who are going to make me a better player,” Sinner noted. “The work never stops. It’s always a continuous effort, and if you want to be a better player, you always have to work and have daily routines—accept difficult times on court.”
Taylor Fritz, although disappointed not to become the first American men’s champion at the US Open since 2003, took heart in reaching the final without performing at his best. He remarked on the current state of the tournament landscape, suggesting it is now more accessible: “Maybe it is a bit more open. I don’t think you have to be unbelievable to go deep in tournaments and contend. It’s different now.” He added that while being solid can get players far, defeating the top contenders still demands peak performance.
