KINGSTON, Jamaica – The governments of Jamaica and India are strengthening their bilateral relations, paving the way for significant economic and social advancements for both nations.
In a recent joint press conference, the countries solidified their partnership by signing four Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) that focus on vital areas of cooperation. The agreements highlight collaboration in digital transformation aimed at enhancing financial inclusion and driving social-economic progress.
The MOUs also encompass a cultural exchange program set for 2024 to 2029, initiatives in sports cooperation, and an agreement between local entities in the digital payments sector.
Jamaican Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness and Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi expressed enthusiasm about the enhanced relations between their countries.
Prime Minister Holness remarked on the historical ties, noting nearly two centuries of Indian influence in Jamaica, which has enriched the nation’s cultural heritage and significantly advanced key sectors, including health, education, information technology, and business.
“My productive discussions with Prime Minister Modi signify a new chapter in Jamaica-India relations. We covered a wide range of topics of mutual benefit, such as health, agriculture, digital transformation, film, education, sports, and tourism,” he stated.
Prime Minister Holness is currently on a working visit to India, accompanied by a delegation that includes the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and the Minister responsible for information and digital transformation.
