Popular Nigerian Islamic singer Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso will be laid to rest on Tuesday. The beloved artist’s passing has sent ripples of sorrow throughout the community.
Earlier reports confirmed that the Solatul Janazzah (Prayer for the Dead) was held for the singer in Ojota, Lagos State on Tuesday. The final prayers and burial are scheduled to take place in Ijebu Aiyepe, Ogun State, at noon.
The funeral details were shared widely, with announcements indicating that the renowned artist’s Janazah prayer would commence today by noon, seeking Allah’s mercy for her soul.
Jubril Gawat, the deceased’s brother and a Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Lagos State Governor, shared a poignant message on social media, quoting a verse from the Quran: “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.” His heartfelt words prompted an outpouring of condolences from followers and friends.
Rukayat Gawat was celebrated for her enchanting voice and spiritual music, which deeply connected with many in the Muslim community. On September 14, 2024, she had commemorated a 12-year remembrance for her missing father, Aremu Gawat, a respected Islamic presenter whose whereabouts have remained unknown since July 2012.
