Apple has rolled out its latest iOS developer beta, iOS 18.1 beta 4, bringing exciting new features that enhance user experience beyond basic bug fixes.
This update introduces support for Spatial Photos specifically for iPhone 15 Pro users. These photos appear as typical images on the device but transform into immersive experiences when viewed on compatible devices.
The iPhone 15 Pro has previously offered Spatial Video capabilities, but the addition of Spatial Photos marks a notable enhancement. Users can easily access this feature within the Camera app. Once activated, the app prompts users to switch to landscape mode and alerts them if lighting conditions are insufficient for capturing high-quality Spatial Photos. If all requirements are satisfied, users can capture these images just as they would with standard photos.

An additional feature includes a simple toggle that allows users to switch effortlessly between Spatial Photo and Spatial Video modes.
This update is particularly exciting for owners or potential buyers of Vision Pro, as Spatial Photos can be viewed in a captivating 3D format using this device, enhancing the photo viewing experience through depth and dimension. For those not yet equipped with Vision Pro, capturing these moments is still worthwhile as they may consider acquiring this technology in the future.
It’s worth mentioning that users can also convert standard photos taken with the iPhone 15 Pro into Spatial Photos; however, the resulting quality may not match that of native Spatial Photos.
All these features will also be available on the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro models, set to launch on September 20. In addition to Spatial Photos, iOS 18.1 beta 4 includes various new features, although some may not be accessible in every region. These include improved suggestions in the Type to Siri interface, the ability to wirelessly recover a bricked iPhone through a nearby iPhone 16, and a redesigned connectivity section in the Control Center.
The iOS 18.1 beta 4 is currently available for download, but users must be registered developers to access it. As a reminder, it is advisable to back up your device before installing any beta software.
