An investigation team looking into the death of former Kannur Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Naveen Babu visited the Collectorate to interview Kannur District Collector Arun K. Vijayan on Monday, October 21, 2024.
The Collector’s testimony is regarded as crucial in the ongoing inquiry, with allegations suggesting his involvement in inviting former district panchayat president P.P. Divya to the controversial farewell meeting for the late ADM, raising suspicions about a possible conspiracy linked to the incident.
In response to media inquiries, Mr. Vijayan stated he intends to provide a truthful account to the police. He mentioned that he had previously met with the Chief Minister to discuss district matters, which included the investigation into Naveen Babu’s death.
When pressed by the media, he declined to comment on whether Ms. Divya had lodged a complaint against the ADM.
Previously, Mr. Vijayan testified before the Joint Commissioner of Land Revenue, A. Geeta, denying any involvement in inviting Ms. Divya to the farewell event. He clarified that the farewell was organized by the staff council and that Ms. Divya was not officially invited by him.
However, his statement appears to contradict Ms. Divya’s assertion that she attended the event at the Collector’s invitation. Members of the staff council have also supported the Collector’s position, claiming that Ms. Divya was not among those formally invited to the occasion.
