The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its investigation into a gold smuggling case linked to Kannada actor Ranya Rao, conducting searches across Bengaluru to gather vital evidence.
Investigators focused on Ranya’s residence, the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) office, and the hotel where her wedding took place.
Sources reveal that the CBI is analyzing wedding footage and guest lists to identify attendees and those who presented valuable gifts to the actor. The investigation is particularly keen on uncovering connections between Ranya and individuals associated with expensive contributions, which may relate to the smuggling operation.
The inquiry appears to extend beyond Ranya Rao, as officials explore potential ties between other high-profile individuals and the smuggling activities.
A team from the CBI’s Delhi unit is leading the investigation, gathering extensive data on land approvals from KIADB, indicating a wider probe into possible financial and regulatory violations.
In parallel, a hearing regarding Ranya Rao’s bail plea is ongoing at the Special Court for Economic Offences. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) investigation officer has arrived at the court ahead of the proceedings. The court previously instructed authorities to submit objections to the bail plea, with the DRI’s legal team expected to deliver its objections during today’s session.
