Meta has rolled out a host of updates to Instagram Direct Messages (DMs), introducing several new features that aim to enhance communication and engagement among users. The updates include message translation, music stickers, scheduled messages, pinned content, and group chat QR codes, all designed to facilitate smoother and more interactive conversations.
One of the standout features is the new message translation tool, which allows users to easily translate messages within their chats. By pressing and holding a message sent or received in a different language and selecting “Translate,” users can view the translated text directly beneath the original message.
Additionally, Instagram now enables users to share 30-second song previews within DMs through music stickers. This feature can be accessed via the sticker tray, allowing users to choose tracks from Instagram’s audio library, accompanied by a spinning vinyl animation for the recipient.
Scheduled messages are another recent enhancement, allowing users to send messages at times they choose. Users can compose their message, hold the send button, select a date and time, and confirm their schedule. This feature also includes options for setting reminders for important tasks.
Building on last year’s chat thread pinning capability, users can now pin individual messages, images, memes, or Reels within both 1:1 and group chats. Up to three messages can be pinned per conversation, ensuring that vital or frequently referenced content remains easily accessible.
Furthermore, a newly introduced group chat QR code feature simplifies adding members to group conversations. Users can create a unique QR code linked to a group chat, which can be shared directly, or saved for future use. Group admins maintain control over membership by refreshing the QR code at any time.
These updates highlight Meta’s commitment to evolving Instagram into a more dynamic and user-friendly messaging platform. With features designed for cross-language communication, multimedia sharing, organizational tools, and uncomplicated group invitations, Instagram is set on enhancing real-time interactions and social connections.
The new features are now accessible globally. Users are encouraged to check Instagram’s Help Center for further details on how to utilize each tool effectively.
