The Republic of Ireland’s Department of Transport is currently investigating claims regarding the transportation of munitions for the Israel Defence Forces through Irish airspace.
These allegations surfaced on a platform that reported a cargo flight bound for Israel allegedly traversed Irish airspace earlier in 2024. A representative from the Department of Transport emphasized that the carriage of weapons on civil aircraft within Irish airspace is strictly prohibited unless a specific exemption is authorized by the transport minister.
Officials confirmed that no applications for such exemptions have been submitted or granted in 2023 or thus far in 2024. The flight in question was operated by a civil air carrier, and the Department is in discussions with the operator regarding the situation.
On Monday, Taoiseach Simon Harris expressed his commitment to obtaining further details about these concerning reports.
