The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially unveiled the personal details of candidates vying for the Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.
This announcement follows the successful completion of party primaries, with 16 political parties submitting their nomination forms before the deadline on May 12, 2025.
In a statement, INEC emphasized that the personal particulars have been made available through its dedicated portal, which closed automatically at the specified deadline.
“In accordance with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022, the Commission has made the EC9 forms, academic credentials, and other relevant documentation of all candidates and their running mates accessible at its state headquarters and the 21 local government offices throughout Anambra State,” the statement said.
“With the conclusion of party primaries, 16 political parties have successfully uploaded their candidates’ nomination forms by the 6:00 PM deadline on May 12, 2025, when the portal was shut down.”
“As required by Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022, the Commission has published the personal particulars of each candidate and their running mate, displaying copies of Form EC9 along with all submitted academic credentials and additional documentation at our State Headquarters and local offices in Anambra State,” the statement continues.
INEC has urged the public to thoroughly examine these documents.
The Commission also reminded candidates that they have the right to contest any nomination if they believe that false information has been submitted, as outlined in Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act.
The finalized list of candidates is expected to be released on June 9, 2025, consistent with Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act, which mandates publication at least 150 days prior to the election.
“We encourage all Nigerians to review the documents carefully. Any aspirant from the party primaries who suspects that a candidate has provided false information can challenge the nomination in a Federal High Court in line with Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act 2022,” the statement concluded.
“The final list of candidates will be published on June 9, 2025, in accordance with Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, ensuring compliance with the established timetable for the election,” the statement added.
