Indonesia has marked a historic moment by celebrating Independence Day in its future capital city, Nusantara, for the very first time. The celebrations were notably scaled back due to ongoing construction efforts.
This event was intended to coincide with the country’s 79th anniversary of independence, which was declared in 1945 after enduring centuries of Dutch colonial rule and Japanese occupation during World War II.
However, the ambitious project on the island of Borneo has faced significant construction delays and funding challenges. Nusantara is poised to become a vital legacy of outgoing President Joko Widodo, who participated in the celebrations alongside his successor, Prabowo Subianto.
