Artificial Intelligence (AI) emerged as the central theme at India Mobile Congress 2024, where a wide range of tech and telecom companies, encompassing startups and educational institutions, presented over 900 technology use case scenarios, including 750 AI-driven solutions during the four-day event in New Delhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inaugural visit highlighted India’s technological prowess as he engaged with innovative startups such as Signalchip, Wisig Networks, and women-led ventures like Astrome and Easiofy Solutions.
The showcased AI applications focused on conservation, convenience, efficiency, safety, and the automation of hazardous tasks, enhancing human assistance in diverse areas.
On one side, AI-powered virtual agents were optimizing workloads in contact centers, while on the other, solutions were being developed to address healthcare access issues in remote locations. Notable applications included AI systems for railway safety, capable of detecting and alerting unusual track activity.
At the event, Bharti Airtel introduced India’s premier AI-powered spam detection solution designed to mitigate spam calls and messages, offering real-time alerts to users. Additionally, Ericsson unveiled a 5G robotic dog named Rocky, which aids emergency services by providing timely alerts during crises such as fires.
Nokia highlighted advancements in 5G, 6G, AI/ML, and network infrastructure, aimed at fostering innovation and sustainability. Meanwhile, Reliance Jio provided a glimpse of PhoneCall AI, a much-anticipated feature for transcribing and summarizing phone calls, currently in alpha testing.
Vodafone Idea showcased the ability to transmit real-time diagnostic reports across its high-speed network, facilitating remote video consultations for doctors with over 30 medical tests available for under ₹250, enhancing healthcare accessibility in rural settings.
Startups presented humanoid co-workers and AI-driven marketing solutions targeting mental health issues, alongside AI-based de-addiction programs. These innovations also extended to Human Resources, using AI for hiring processes, payroll automation, attendance management, employee training, and performance tracking.
Ramakrishna P, CEO of India Mobile Congress, acknowledged the significant involvement of the education sector: “IMC 2024 welcomed numerous educational institutions, including IITs and engineering colleges, creating opportunities for sharing ideas, showcasing innovations, and networking with industry leaders.”
Groundbreaking ideas and technologies from prestigious institutions like IITs and IIMs were highlighted, demonstrating their role in advancing the telecom and technology landscape in India through LLMs like BharatGen.
C3iHub, a Technology Innovation Hub at IIT Kanpur, focused on cybersecurity measures for critical infrastructure, automotives, and drones. The Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) presented numerous AI solutions for smart agriculture, such as AI-enabled feeding systems that monitor water quality and optimize fish feeding times. Mahindra University students displayed innovations geared towards enhancing shrimp farming.
India Mobile Congress has established itself as Asia’s largest digital technology forum, providing a global platform for showcasing cutting-edge solutions, services, and innovative use cases across the technology and telecom ecosystem.
The event attracted over 400 exhibitors, approximately 900 startups, and participants from more than 120 countries.
