Lok Sabha MP K. Kanimozhi highlighted the DMK government’s commitment to supporting differently-abled individuals during a distribution camp in Thoothukudi on August 3. Speaking on the occasion, she emphasized the importance of accessible public buildings and quality assistive devices for the differently-abled.
She recalled how the late Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi established an exclusive Ministry for the differently-abled to ensure they received focused attention and support. The initiative has led to the construction of user-friendly ramps in public buildings, empowering differently-abled individuals to engage directly with officials.
Kanimozhi reaffirmed the present government’s dedication under Chief Minister M. K. Stalin to enhance the quality of life for differently-abled citizens. She noted the assistance provided to these individuals during the natural calamities in December 2023 as a testament to this commitment.
Expressing gratitude towards the Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) for its generous funding, she remarked on Thoothukudi’s ongoing needs for differently-abled support services and urged the Union Government for uninterrupted funding.
“Despite ideological differences, both the Union and State Governments have successfully collaborated to advance the cause of differently-abled persons,” she stated.
The event also featured remarks from the REC’s chief programme manager and acknowledgments from local officials, including the District Collector and Social Welfare Minister, who outlined the government’s achievements in providing essential services to those in need.
