Ex-Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has expressed his dismay over the criticism directed at his fellow countryman, Victor Osimhen, regarding his recent transfer troubles from Italian club Napoli.
Osimhen, 25, has found himself at the center of a complicated transfer situation after unsuccessful attempts to join Saudi Pro League team Al-Hilal and English club Chelsea. In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Ighalo revealed that he spoke with Osimhen and sensed the emotional toll the situation has taken on him.
Ighalo stated, “No human being is perfect, and we have all made mistakes in life, but seeing comments about this young man from his country’s people makes me really sad, without even knowing what happened. I could feel the pain in his voice.” He emphasized Osimhen’s dedication to his craft and passion for representing his country, asserting, “He will definitely come back stronger. We learn every day in life.”
As the transfer speculation continues, fans and supporters of the current African Footballer of the Year have voiced mixed reactions regarding his future. Despite the challenges, Osimhen had a stellar performance in the 2023/2024 season, playing an integral role in helping Napoli secure their first Scudetto in 40 years.
In recent developments, new coach Antonio Conte has assigned the iconic number 9 shirt, previously worn by Osimhen, to new signing Romelu Lukaku, indicating a shift in team dynamics as the new season approaches.
