The UK’s newly enacted Online Safety Act is causing alarm among small website owners, with many fearing that they may have to shut down their community websites and forums. Administrators are concerned that the law imposes heavy obligations and could lead to hefty fines amounting to millions of pounds.
Dee Kitchen, the administrator of the popular cycling forum LFGSS, which serves 70,000 members, expressed significant concerns, stating, “We fall firmly into scope, and I have no way to dodge it. The Act is too broad.”
This legislation is set to reshape the digital landscape, prompting discussions about its implications for smaller online platforms.
